Song of the Week 2011 - The Start!

I've been thinking alot recently about how music, and certain songs, have more meaning at certain times. (This was mostly in Amsterdam heavily under the influence but hey it's a great time to ponder)

The lyrics seems to speak out to you and you feel you can relate to something that maybe you never noticed.

So I've had this idea to each week pick a song that either stood out or reflects the way I feel at that time.

At the end of 2011 I'll have a playlist of 52 songs that sums up the year, the highs and lows, the good times, the bad times, the contradictions, the places I go, the people I meet. It will be an audio narrative.

I can sit there on Jan 1st 2012 and just listen to the whole thing all the way through; With a hangover in Canada and hopefully not in a kids play area.

The first three songs of the year are posted below and I'll try to update weekly from now on!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1st January to the 7th January

Scouting for Girls - This Ain't A Love Song

Sad start to 2011

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

8th January to the 14th January
David Guetta - Memories (featuring Kid Cudi)

One week in Europe featuring Bruges and Amsterdam

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

15th January to the 21st January
Diddy - Dirty Money - Coming Home ft. Skylar Grey

Acceptance, responsibility and homecoming

Band Name Generator

As part of my continuing efforts to not actually do the job I'm paid to do today I found a fun time waste.

You go on Wikipedia and click Random Article. The title of the article you get is your Band Name.

Then you go to a quotes page (I used The Quotations Page) and click random quotes then take the last 5 words of the bottom quote.

These are a few of the best I got! (I've put where the quote came from at the end)

Royal Flemish
The Queen and Illiterate Sport Fishermen - (PJ O'Rourke)

'Indie band trying to make a name for themselves in an already saturated market'

Brunhilde Peak
Be Convinced We Are Loved - (Victor Hugo)

'Prog-rock outfit release debut album following massive world tour'

Core Foundation
When the Sun Is Shining - (JFK)

'Exciting new dub-step straight out of London'

Aurora Mental Health Center
And no-one dares criticize it - (Pierre Gallois)

'Metal act with a political conscience'

Ukrainian Second League
Back In The Same Box - (Italian Proverb)

'Folk musicians with a strong European flavour'

Happy New Year

I started 2010 sat in a Dinosaur Themed Play Area in Shinigawa, Tokyo, confused and alone and smiling.

I ended 2010 sat in a Play Area in Edinburgh, Scotland in the pouring rain wearing a seal hat, confused and alone and crying.

Maybe one day I'll tell you what happened inbetween.
